We are proud to have introduced many treatments previously not available in The Gambia.
Spinal stenosis can cause debilitating back pain and leads to reduced productivity which affects the economy of the individual and the country. The treatment includes Laminectomy which is a complex and delicate surgery. It is already available in The Gambia being performed in a few hospitals. The technique is however still evolving as hospitals continue to purchase more technological equipment.
On Wednesday the 1st of May 2024, our team of Surgeons (Neurosurgeon), Nurses, Scrub Nurses, Anesthetists, and other theatre staff performed yet another Laminectomy but this time with increased accuracy by using C-ARM and Endoscopic assistance. The C-ARM ensures that you can view the bones continuously by x-ray (referred to as fluoroscopy) and endoscopy ensures viewing the problem area by use of a telescope and therefore not needing to make big cuts to reach it. This is currently among the latest technologies available for this procedure.
